the evolution of the stitch fix brand

the evolution of the stitch fix brand

During my time as Creative Director at Stitch Fix, I had the unique challenge—and privilege—of guiding the brand’s transformation from a single identity into a house of brands, and then back again! What began as a focused women’s fashion service evolved into a complex "house of brands" that included Mens, Kids, and more. This journey wasn’t just about adding new business lines; it was about weaving together a unified brand tapestry that could cater to distinct audiences while maintaining the core essence of Stitch Fix.

Stich Fix mens

a new frontier

Our first big leap was the launch of Stitch Fix Men’s—a brand extension that needed to honor the original while standing tall on its own. We created a "sibling brand" that respected the core of the Women’s line but added a few rugged, masculine touches. And here’s the kicker: our internal creative team’s vision was chosen over external agencies. That’s right—homegrown talent for the win! The result was a comprehensive identity system that included everything from voice and tone to casting, photo art direction, and packaging design. It was a brand that said, “Hey guys, we’ve got you covered—literally.”

Stitch Fix KIDS

bringing fun to fashion

Fast forward two years, and we were ready to add a splash of fun to the mix with Stitch Fix Kids. Our mission? To create a playful, gender-neutral brand that could make fashion fun for everyone from toddlers to tweens. We took the best of what we’d learned from the Women’s and Men’s lines and added a dose of joy and humor. From identity guidelines to a complete packaging system, we worked closely with our corporate strategy team to ensure that this new brand was as delightful as the little ones it was designed for.

BUILDING THE UMBRELLA BRAND

reducing complexity

As Stitch Fix continued to grow, it became clear that we needed to bring everything together under a single, stylish umbrella. This wasn’t just about keeping things tidy—it was about streamlining operations, reducing costs, and presenting a unified front to the world. We carefully integrated the unique elements of each sub-brand into this cohesive identity, ensuring that no matter who we were talking to, they knew it was all part of the Stitch Fix family.

STITCH FIX FREESTYLE

a new shopping experience

In 2021, we decided to shake things up with Stitch Fix Freestyle—a brand-new business model that let customers shop à la carte while still enjoying the personalized touch we’re known for. Seamlessly woven into our umbrella brand, Freestyle set the stage for future expansions and made sure that every new venture felt like a natural extension of the Stitch Fix world. It was like adding a whole new wing to our stylish mansion.

The visual refresh

renewing our look

Our final act? A visual refresh of the corporate brand in 2022. We knew we had to modernize without losing the brand equity we’d worked so hard to build. So, we introduced new typefaces, refined our color palette, and gave the "Fix" packaging and first-time customer welcome kit a stylish makeover. The result was a fresh, modern aesthetic that kept Stitch Fix looking as sharp as the clothes we sent out.
